Ryan F asked:

I hunt about 300 acres in middle georgia… there are 3 very large fields, a pond, and some hard woods… 2 of the fields are planted with rye, and the other field is plant with feeder corn, anyone can help me find a very effective hunting plan that will help me get that big buck?

Not familiar with hunting Georgia but all deer must eat and sleep. Set up on trails going between these areas. Best way to figure this out is to go scouting a day or two after a good rain and see where the tracks and trails are at. This will change by season. Hunting at dusk by food supply has worked best for me.

You will see a lot of small racked bucks and does in the field, but the odds are against the big one coming out in the daytime, unless the rut has kicked in. I know they show the big ones on TV coming out in the fields and begging to be shot, but for folks such as ourselves, hunting where we hunt at, the odds are against it happening. You have described a deer paradise on the property you hunt. But I believe the big bucks are reluctant to use the big fields in the daytime. You need small food plots set in the woods to increase your chances of success on the big ones. Just enjoy the setup you have and hope one walks out by. The main thing is the enjoyment anyway. But if the trophy deer is your true goal, the best way to achieve it, is to let the other deer feed without being disturbed by getting shot by you. You may have to just watch day after day, and finally the big one will feel safe enough with the other deer out in the field to come out and feed. You may also want to try to hunt the corners of the field, in the woods. The bucks will cut the corners, staying in the woods as they travel the area. I’m just a little envious of your setup. It sounds great. Good luck, and hope you connect on the big one this year. It sure is fun trying, isn’t it?

I’d set up near the corn field in the early morning, but first I’d put out a trail cam to make sure and figure a good time (If people walk throw/around there some what regularly, It should be O.K. at this time of year).

Set up on a trail that goes between the feed and the pond try to find the middle of the trail or a good clearing and set your treestand or blind so that you have a vantage point in as many directions as possible.

    GOOD LUCK & HAPPY HUNTING

Set up a box stand at the NW corner of the cornfield. Set up a trial cam to find a good spot to hunt, which will most likely be around the break of daylight, or right at sundown. Rotate the trial cam to see where bucks are coming in. Maybe set up a portable stand near the rye fields.

There are a few websites set up exactly for questions like this. One of them is Regards, Larry.

Sure, go buy a 3 million candle power spot light and an ATV. Get a friend to spot light one and POW! NOTE that this may not be legal in your state so check laws before doing this.
