deer hunting
bugs asked:

I was wondering why youth hunting started. Thinking it had somthing to do with accidental shootings during regular hunting season, Being adults will pay more attention to new hunters rather than there own limit.

I know in my state (Iowa) most deer hunting fatalities were caused by hunters falling out of tree stands. In this state in 2006, 1 man was killed because he was shot.

I had a close call with an inexperienced hunter once. Nothing will get your heart racing (and **** you off) like deer slugs whizzing over your head!

Youth hunting started as a way to generate more interest in younger people, with the demographic having declined remarkably over the years. It gives the kids a chance to get out there before the adults have had a chance to disturb things (at least with guns) and increases the chance of success.
As another person said, accidental shootings are quite rare. Hunting fatalities and major injuries are largely from falling out of tree stands.

I don’t know the fatalities nationwide. I hear my homestate statistics. It’s a pretty small number. Playing baseball or football is just as dangerous. Youth hunts were started to try to draw more kids into hunting. The number of hunters continue to decline. Not as many kids get into it these days.

Look at the number of people killed in car wrecks caused by hitting deer every year; makes you want to weld an iron cow catcher on the front of your cadillac.
