Make sure you wear something that makes you visible to other hunters. My friends husband was shot by a group of hunters from NY city that had never been hunting before and just aimed at the moving branches of shrubbery.

I hunted in Maine for one season in the late 1980’s. Two tips I would give. Go slow….anywhere that you still hunt you should cover less than 100 yards in an hour. Most of your time should be spent watching for movement, or for shapes that are just not quite in synch with the surrounding forest. Remember, you will RARELY see a whole deer in cover, usually you’ll see the line of a belly, the tail twitch, the white throat patch, etc. The other thing you can try to do if the terrain is right: sit on a high hillside, just under the crest so you’re not outlined, and glass every opening you can see below you. I spotted moose, bear, and a deer that I eventually stalked and harvested with this method. Hope this helps with your hunting.
