I think .270 is good enough for both

I never have been able to decide about deer, which gives me a good excuse to have several.
A buddy has the best hog rig I’ve ever seen: a nice, handy little side-by-side double chambered in 8×57JRS with a low-powered variable Zeiss scope on top. You have to kill a lot of hogs to make the price of pork reasonable with that one, though.

a .270 is in my opinion one of the best rounds made for a rifle.

Well remember now – In some states and some countys its shotgun only….. I use a Mossberg 500 slug gun for that…. For deer and hog a 270 is fine…. Not to light and not to overkill…. Those Remington 700’s are a decent rifle…. My only complaint with a 270 is in the off season if you target shoot a bit then the ammo is pricey. Thats why I like the .308 Winchester… Ammo can be had in bulk at cheap prices whereas the .270 cannot……

Agree with METROPOL.
But run a mouth long enough and somebody will listen.

The .270 is a fine deer cartridge and should do well enough on hogs.
Personally I’d rather have a lever-action rifle for hog hunting, since I can shoot them faster than a bolt-action. Any Winchester, Marlin, or Rossi lever-gun would do well. Rifles chambered in .30-30, .35 Rem, .44 RemMag, .45 LC, .454 Casull, or .45-70 would be fine for hogs or deer.

The .270 Winchester is as good as it gets for deer. It is great on hogs as well. For strictly hog hunting I’d prefer a .308 Winchester (which is also great for deer) because the .308 Winchester is available in heavier factory ammo/bullets. The .30-06 Springfield is also great for both.
If I am strictly deer hunting I usually use my old .25-06 Remington OR my .270 Weatherby Vanguard. If I am strictly hunting hog (say not during deer season) I’ll use either my .350 Remington Magnum 673 Guide Rifle or my .308 Browning lever action. If I am aware of a large South Texas 400+ lb. hog in the area I take my Ruger #1 in .458 Winchester Magnum.
Happy hunting.

.270 is not so different from the 30.06 so its good…but i think i would still prefer the 30.06

it really depends on the terrain and situation. Where I hunt, a .30-30, SKS, or AK would be ideal, but it’s hardwood swamps. If you have longer shots, then a .270 would be great.
(I like my .30-06 for long shots, and my sks for brush)
