I have hunted for the last 4 years and shot 4 deer my first being a large seven point buck. If you hunt in woods it is best to build an enclosed stand near the edge of the woods if there is field room around go to a local grocery store and purchase a bucket of grass seed for deer similiar to hay it realy makes a difference and the deer grow very big because of it if you hunt in an open field get a trio tent.

Well 5 years is a long time without ever even seeing a deer. If indeed there are deer there: Start scouting the area in late summer. Look for deer tracks, old rubs on trees from last year. If you find deer sign, then find an area that you can see in all directions fairly well. Put up a deer stand and wait for hunting season. Show up to that deer stand well before daylight to avoid spooking them. Pack a snack and stay all day. You’ll get ya one if they’re there.

Nobody can tell you why there are not deer there but my guess is that there are not as many as there are here in Tennessee. There are over 250,000 deer here in Tennessee. Deer hunting is a patient sport and maybe its not for you. You should try duck hunting or turkey hunting. Maybe you should set up cameras to see what time the deer come out. This may help you to see why they are not out when you are?

You cant simply go out into the woods and expect to see deer. You could be on prime hunting land and not see a thing if you aren’t in the right spot.
Food and water sources are the most obvious place to start. If you are hunting dense woods find an area of the forest floor that gets sunlight through the canopy and clear away needles and leaves with a rake. Many times when baiting isn’t legal it is legal to promote natural growth.. and by clearing an area that gets sunlight green shoots will appear after a good rain.
If hunting land with lots of greens for food then its best to focus on water or an area with the best or most abundant food. Fresh water attracts more deer than a stagnant pond.. rivers, creeks and springs will draw more wildlife than a stagnant pond or slough.

First things first. Let me start by saying I am from Texas but I think that these simple things apply to all forms of hunting. Find a hunting area that has evidence of fresh deer signs. I mean scout the area in advance of the hunt look for food ,water, trails, rubs, fecal excriment ( **** and dont mistake it for a rabbits) this tells you that deer are using the area. Find or erect a place where you can conceal yourself and still be able to see. If you can do this months in advance is the best. Then place some bait if that is legal in your local. this gives them a reason to stop. Do not make any noise. Do not smoke or wear cologne. Do not launder your clothes with detergents heavy laiden with fru fru smells. Wear camo or dark clothing and if you are light skinned find somethin that breaks your face up and doesnt make it look like you are waving a white flag when you turn your head. I personally wear glasses and have a belaclava and a cap drape. In short find the game, get in the middle of the game, be quiet, dont smell, shoot straight and eat well.

Best strategy is staying very very quiet.

the first thing is to do alot of scouting.the more your in the woods the more youll become familar with deer.youll start finding deer trails and thatll give you an ideal of were they feed and bed down at.try and find oak trees(especially white oaks),deer love acorns.if you have the resources you could plant some food plots.and finally you need alot of luck, the more your in the woods, the better the chance your going to see one.the best way to see deer is to hunt, hunt and hunt some more.

I hunt in northern Michigan ( above you ) Im not sure how you prepare your clothing ( scent free ) or how you pick an area to hunt, you need to scout areas you want to hunt and see where the deer are. look for oaks, open non harvested corn feilds, funnel areas near these fields, creek bottoms with some hillsides, old logging cuts , signs of old rubs and new rubs, Can you spot at night in Wi. ? thats a good way to tell if there is deer using fields. Is there alot of other hunting pressure there ?
Last thing….are you sleeping ??? ive hunted in northern Wi a few times and saw so many deer I lost count by noon…….

In the summer start scouting your area, look for rubs, pawing and bedding areas. You can find a path that deers are taking, mabey near a acorn tree, or a watering hole. If the path is well beaten down and you find rubs, pawingg or scrapes that would be a good area. I would pick out a place to set up my ground blind or tree stand whatever you have near that area. Go ahead and get your stand in the spot you will be hunting. Taht way the deer will be familiar by seeing it there, instead up doing it the day before or the day you hunt. The deer will notice something out of the ordinary. ANd this way it will already have the scent of the woods on it. The night of your hunt wash with scentless soap, and put on scentless deodorant do not brush your teeth lol. Eat an apple instead! Wash your clothes in the uncented laundry detergent. (you can purchace these things at your local walmart lol) Or you can bring your clothes in the woods and put some leaves and your hunting clothees in a plastic bag that way they can get the smell of the woods on them. Spray some scent guard on the bottom of your shoes again walmart. Walk quietly to your spot. Always sit downwind or the deer will smell you regardless. You can sit and wait for a deer , rattle for one, use a doe caller. It depends on what part of season it is. On which call you schould use. This is very important. Diffrent calls are for diffrent things, example a bleet call can be a baby doe in trouble. When buck are in the rut you might want to use some old deer horns to rattle, making the dominat buck think others are fighting over a doe. Just whatever the scenario you will know what to do. Most of all be patient. I have bagged most of my doe/ bucks by staying in the woods through lunch time when most hunters coome down to eat. They get to moving them with all of the Hunters leaving the woods to go eat. (They think we are all gone lol) Note, this technique usually works when you are hunting a wild life managment area. So there you go. I hope i have helped you with my stratagies and happy hunting and go bag a big one. Oh but not yet its not time. BTW you can also plant you some rye grass this summer and hunt by that. They love it! Also make sure to put out corn in your area, you can also try different lures. I like to use Tink69, you can get a cotton ball or something and hang some in a tree or use a drag rag, i know its nasty but its clean. I am a woman so i am going to say it anyway. The best thing i use is a womans (cleean lol) Tampon to soak the tink69 n because it absorbs it and lasts longer. just a though. ok i will quit now……..
