I usually wait until around the end of Oct. to start with the grunting,In my experience using it in the early season has been not so good,on several occasions seeing a buck in the distance I have tried to call to get them in closer only to have the grunt scare them off.It seems to me that the closer to the rut you get the more productive grunting is,in Mich. were I live that usually means late Oct. and early Nov. until then I sit quietly

it works best in the rut (deer breeding season) but you can use it any time of year, as long as its deer season in your area.

About 12 to 15 minutes after you have settled into your deer stand.

You can use a grunt call any time. Deer are vocal year round.
Like the person above me said wait 15-30 minutes before grunting after you get to your stand.
