vt500ascott2 asked:

Do you think that it’s illegal because it’s a “black” sport? In all honesty, I really don’t see much difference between hunting and dog fighting. I know all of the arguments. I know that animal cruelty laws help to identify psychopaths before they start carving up humans. I know that dogfighting can involve drugs and gambling (but come on, what sport doesn’t involve gambling)?

Let’s look at ourselves honestly. Isn’t dog fighting illegal because its principally a black enterprise?
You people are making too many rationalizations for the hunters. If dogfighting is illegal, deer hunting should be illegal too.

I **** guns. I would never go hunting. I might go to a dog fight, though. I’ve seen bull fights on TV (when I lived in Madrid). I’m not all caught up in the whole animals rights thing. I’m not making excuses for Michael Vick, either. Yeah, he broke the law, and he deserves to be punished. The law is the law, and everyone has to obey it whether we like it or not.

I’m trying to ask a different sort of question here. I’m just saying, mightn’t the law be a tad ****** or even classist (kudos to the guy who mentioned **** fighting) in this regard?
Have you ever heard of two humans who fight to the death (at times) for money? It’s called boxing and you can watch it on pay-per-view. You can also gamble on the fight’s outcome.
Man, did I underestimate the ability of hunters to practice self-delusion or what?

Just so everyone knows where I’m coming from, I’m white. I do not support animal rights. I do not attend dog fights. I do not watch bullfighting. I do not see their appeal, nor am I horrified by them. I do not hunt. However, I find hunters to be much more sick and psychotic than people who get off on bullfights or dogfights. Just admit to yourselves that you enjoy killing and move on. What’s the big deal? Why be ashamed of who you are?
It’s the law that’s hypocritical. Either BOTH deer hunting and dogfightling are OK or NEITHER should be OK, but it can’t be one or the other.

FYI – I’m not afraid of dog fighters coming after me with a cattle prod, but for damn sure I’m afraid of guns…

Lyndon
